For those friends of the decanter who don’t know already, allow me to pass on the good news that Eldest Gel was accepted early decision into Sweet Briar College this week for the Class of 2020. We are all very, very happy, indeed. (I pulled this vixen pic off of Mrs. Robbo’s FB page. I don’t know where she got it, but I think it suits our mood perfectly, especially since the Vixen is the school mascot. Also, did you know that the school colors of pink and green were the basis of the whole preppy fad thing back in the 80’s? True.)
The gel has been getting all kinds of FB and email congratulations from alumnae, many of whom she’s never even heard of. This only reenforces the lessons she’s learned about loyalty to the place, a loyalty I think she’s going to develop to a very deep degree herself.
A glass of wine with all of you!

My congrats to the young lady! I’m a firm believer in single sex educational institutions and was pleased to see SBC survive the challenges of the past year. Alas, there aren’t any male ones left (that I’m aware of).

NOVA-C, do not forget Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, about an hour from SBC. May be the last all-male college, although I’ve a vague idea that there might be a few more farther west.
Anyhoo, the gentlemen of HSC (or the “Squids” as we called them back in my day at Dubyahnell) were mighty vocal in their support of the rebel alumnae during the recent, ah, unpleasantness at SBC, so full marks for them.

The Squids were just protecting their hunting grounds. As for all-men, this is what the disinformation site has at present:

Robbo and the captain: Thanks for educating me. While I knew of Hampden-Sydney, I had NO idea it was all male. Glad to see their are some out there. And BZ to them for supporting SBC, no matter the motive.
