Greetings, my fellow port swillers!

Well, it’s a mid-August Friday and ol’ Robbo hasn’t got much at the moment.  However, he did come across a curious linguistic juxtaposition this morning which, while perhaps old hat to many friends of the decanter, is new to him.

Specifically, as I already knew, a group of owls is called a parliament.  But what I didn’t know is that a group of baboons is called a congress.

I’ve no notion of the etymology of either of these expressions, but if the one is of Brit origin and the other ‘Murican, for example, they would seem to suggest very different sensibilities about governing bodies on either side of the pond.

Of course, there may be other explanations.   Or there may simply be no gunnegshun at all.  Anybody have any ideas?
