In a nice article on the influence of ancient Roman culture and history on the modern mind, Harry Mount includes a throwaway observation about the movie Gladiator:

I found [it] a bit stodgy on the old sword and sandal Quo Vadis lines – you half-expected the late, great Tony Curtis to pop up with a “Yonda is da castle of mah fadda, da emprah.”

This nearly caused me a screen-spoiling hot beverage disaster because one of my little amusements is to trade such Tony Curtis lines with the Mothe.  My favorite comes from Spartacus.  When Curtis’ tutor-slave character is questioned about his antecedents by Laurence Olivier’s Crassus, he includes in his reply, “I also teach dah Classics.”

That cracks us up every time.

Nice to see that somebody else indulges in this kind of humor.
