Last evening found Mrs. R working on the Sunday WaPo crossword, with Self offering occassional assistance.

“Who is Buckminster Fuller?” she asked.

“Um, I believe he was a televangelist,” I replied.

Well, I see that in fact he was an architect and that today happens to be the anniversary of his birth.

My mistake, but I ask you: With a name like “Buckminster Fuller” what else could the guy be but a televangelist?

This poster adorns a bus stop that I pass by every day.  It seems to be the product of an outfit called The Foundation for a Better Life.

I suppose I understand the message that is supposed to be conveyed by this ad, but really, the association with the old Simon & Garfunkel song and the original Mrs. Robinson, whose own character is no more desirable to pass on than is a dose of the clap, quite ruins the impact for me.

Perhaps nobody thought this idea all the way through.  Or perhaps they did and reckoned that the only people who would be bothered by it are pedantic old cranks like me.

At any rate, after seeing the poster, it now takes me hours to get “Joltin’ Joe has left and gone away, hey, hey, hey” out of my head.
