Doing to Carmen what ought to be done to Carmen.
A glass of wine with Mr. FLG.
This reminds me of my own yootful encounter with the habanera. Let’s go to the way-back machine:

Fear and Loathing in Georgetown
I think Carmen is good fun. In any case, sure beats the heck out of Lady Gaga.

I agree it’s fun, or rather that that is the correct way to approach it. And although the opera itself doesn’t actually do that much for me, I have something of a weakness for the various instrumental arrangements, suites and fantasies that have come out of it.

Your Ethel-Merman like niece happens to adore Carmen and has come up with her own version of this aria. It all started back with Kiss Me Kate – It’s Too Darn Hot (which we always sang as It’s Too – Hoo Hot since she was about 2 when we started in on this one). Then, one day in the tub when she was about 3, it morphed to Carmen (no I have no idea how, these things happen), something like this: “Is that too hot? Is that too hot? Is that too ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-hot?”.
Girl+Carmen+Small Tiled Room = LOUD!!!!! (= headache for me)
How she will laugh at Beaker. If you haven’t already, check out Beaker, Animal and the Swedish Chef’s rendition of Danny Boy over on YouTube. One of nieces all time favorites. It’s absolutely insane.

BTW, the above thread ought to give you some idea of how the child’s mind works, and how tired I am after she goes to bed at night.

B.B.
I absolutely LOVE the Three LEprechauns’ version of “Danny Boy”. Tear-jerkingly funny stuff. Dear Lord, how I miss the Muppets.

The Muppets are awesome.
Now kids get served up Twilight and Hannah “Pole/Lap Dancing” Montana instead. “Oh, it’s what kids their age do!!!”
This is why my children have no idea that TV exist in any other form than “The Sound of Music” or “Yoga Kids”. And they go to a Waldorf School.
Opting out, thank you very much.
Feh.

Ah, yes, Hippy German School!

Wrong. It’s not the slightest bit hippy except for the unfortunate wardrobe/grooming choices of some of the people associated with it. In fact, it’s very… drumroll please…
TRADITIONAL.
So there. SPPPPTTTTTTTT.
