So this morning I was sitting in the pew at RFEC with the eldest and youngest daughters listening to their sister rehearse with her youth choir.  Upon completing their rehearsal, they duly bowed to the altar and recessed down the aisle.  As they came abreast of us, the middle gel flashed her younger sister her winningest smile, said, “Hi, Liz!” and without breaking stride proceeded to land her a juicy one on the ankle with a soccer-style side kick.  She then proceeded along as if nothing had happened. Seraphs weren’t in it.

Needless to say, the youngest gel was indignant to the point of tears.  And I know I didn’t make the situation any better by laughing, but Lawd help me, I couldn’t help myself. (Clarification: No, I am not heartless.  It was just such a sublimely ludicrous pairing of angel and devil.  Besides, I had just been thinking about the encounter between John Courtney Boot and Josephine Stitch.)

*** Spot the quote.  And it’s no good googling Isaac Watts, because the answer goes a level deeper than that.
