The seven year old apparently watched one of the Jurassic Park movies at one of her little friends’ houses the other day. This morning she was explaining the plot to me when all of a sudden she asked, “Dad, why did they call it Jurassic Park? T-Rexes and Tricerotops were Cretaceous!”
Startled, I looked it up. The gel’s perfectly right.

My 9 year old, who has never seen the movie, but knows the story none-the-less, complains about the same thing. Whippersnappers.

Indeed. What makes it worse is that the archeological knowledge has expanded so much since I was that age that, although I too went through a dino-period, I’ve never heard of half the species names she flashes at me.
Regardless of my explanation, she still thinks I’m a moron.

Actually, I recall this very criticism being mentioned in the reviews of the movie when it came out. I think Crichton’s addressed it somewhere at some point.
